The Vindbyholtgård Refugium have three lovely rooms.

Leif Hasle’s house, Vindbyholtgård Refugium, is open to authors of both fiction and non-fiction, translators, and other ‘non-noisy’ artists and writers who wish to focus on a specific project. In case of multiple qualified applicants, priority will be given to professional artists.

The residency is located in a charming 18th-century half-timbered country house in the village of Vindbyholt, Sydsjælland, near Faxe – about an hour’s drive from Copenhagen. The Leif Hasle Foundation offers three furnished rooms with access to a shared kitchen and bathroom. The house boasts a large garden and is close to both the forest and the beach.

Vindbyholtgård Refugium is a dedicated work residency, designed to provide guests with a peaceful and contemplative environment to focus on their projects.

Stays can range from 1 to 4 weeks. The cost is DKK 1,000 per week for the Leif Hasle and Thomasine Gyllembourg rooms, while the larger Marcel Proust room costs DKK 1,500 per week. Young people under 30 and students are eligible for a 50% discount. If you wish to book the entire refuge, a discount is available. Please contact the foundation at info@leifhaslesfond.dk for more details. The rent includes water, heating, electricity, and internet. There is also a printer available for use, with a small user fee.

As a guest, you will need to provide your own food, bring your own linen and towels, and clean your room and the common areas before departure. However, you can rent linen and towels if needed.

Residency periods run from Sunday to Sunday:
Check-in: Sunday at 12:00 (or by appointment)
Check-out: Sunday at 10:00 (or by appointment)

A car is helpful, but not essential. Vindbyholtgård is located about two hours from Copenhagen by public transport. The nearest shopping opportunity is 7 km away in Faxe Ladeplads. There is a biodynamic farm, Vidarslund, with a farm shop on the neighboring property at Marjatta, selling eggs, meat, and vegetables.

Please fill in the application form below. Your message must include a brief application (maximum 10 lines), specifying your preferred week(s) (ideally multiple options), and indicating your desired room.

An enchanting town and country house

Knud Odde, musician and visual artist

Vindbyholtgård provided the perfect opportunity to immerse myself in a new short story project.
With wonderful hosts at the helm and a diverse group of fellow residents under the thatched roof, it was a week I look back on with deep gratitude.
I also truly appreciate the support in developing something more experimental in its early stages.
